Kodak KIMS
Image Conversion Services This
service will allow Kodak KIMS users to convert their existing images and indexes
into a format which will be importable into a PC based image management software
system. Background: The
Kodak KIMS 4000 system is a proprietary imaging system that does not
support standard PC interfaces. The
system uses Electro-magneto optical (EMO) storage media, which is re-writable
optical media. These systems were
sold in the mid-1980's and early-1990's to first-time document imaging customers
of Kodak. Conversion
Limitation: These
Kodak systems were run in pre- Microsoft Windows environments.
The KIMS software must be currently running on a user's
system in order to capture the index database.
Replacement hardware is difficult to find so the sooner the conversion is
started the better the chance for success.
There is no known Kodak utility available to convert the KIMS
proprietary format to open PC format. STATCO's
Conversion Process: Our
conversion process starts with the capture of the index database from the
existing copy of the users KIMS software. All
proprietary images are captured from the EMO disk media and converted into a
TIFF Group 4 compatible file format. The database of index values is processed to associate each
index value to the appropriate converted TIFF image. The output ASCII file holds
the path and filename of the TIFF image file and it's associated index
information. This process assures
that the exact index for each image is identified to the image file before
importing to the PC based image library management system. STATCO
can provide the image and index information in a format ready for import into
any major image library management software system that supports an import
capability. Conversion
Pricing: Pricing
will depend on the scope of activities associated with successfully converting
Kodak KIMS
images into the customer's selected
image management system. Media
costs, freight charges and other incidentals are added to the conversion
pricing. Typically, images are copied to CD-ROM, WORM Disk or
cartridge tape and indexes copied to diskette.
We verify media compatibility and provide a sample test before the
production conversion process starts. A
sample of STATCOs standard pricing guidelines for KIMS conversions is as follows:
